Lee Anderson said a £75,000 Union flag scheme “won’t cost the taxpayer a single penny”. Nobody sponsored it.
Reform-led Nottinghamshire County Council spent £75,000 installing 164 Union flag banners. Lee Anderson said the scheme would “not cost the taxpayer a single penny” because local businesses would sponsor the banners, adding that the council would “actually make a profit”. Seven months later, the council had received no sponsorship bids and remained responsible for the £75,000 cost.
